The Deacon Ministry serves as a vital part of the church's mission by providing spiritual support, compassionate care, and servant leadership to the congregation. Following the biblical example of service, deacons assist the pastor, support church ministries, and help meet the needs of church members and the community.

Deacons are called to exemplify Christian character, integrity, and a heart for serving others as they help strengthen the body of Christ.

What Is a Deacon?

According to the Presbyterian Church's Book of Order, the ministry of deacon is defined as "... one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment...".

Deacons work alongside church leadership to help ensure that both the spiritual and practical needs of the congregation are met,

Responsibilities of a Deacon

Our deacons serve by:

Supporting the pastor and church leadership
Providing spiritual encouragement and guidance
Calling visitors of the church/visiting members who are sick, homebound, or in need
Helping care for church members and their families
Supporting church outreach and community service efforts
Promoting unity, peace, and fellowship within the congregation
Praying for the church, its leaders, and its members
Assisting with church operations and ministry activities as needed

Qualifications of a Deacon

Deacons are expected to demonstrate:

Integrity, honesty, and good character
A servant's heart and love for people
Commitment to prayer and biblical principles
Dependability and responsibility
Respect for church leadership and congregation members
A desire to serve God's people faithfully

The Importance of the Deacon Ministry
